This “Go-to” Pain Reliever May Be a Heart Hazard | | Dear e-Alert Reader, When your joints flare up, reaching for a painkiller might feel like second nature. But what if that pill in your cabinet—one your doctor didn’t even think twice about—was quietly raising your risk of a heart attack? That’s exactly what new research just revealed about NSAIDs—the go-to painkillers millions rely on for joint pain, inflammation, and especially gout flare-ups. A large Canadian study found that patients with gout who took NSAIDs like ibuprofen or naproxen had a 56% higher risk of heart attack, stroke, or death than those taking colchicine… and even worse outcomes compared to those who took no preventive medication at all. Let’s break down what this means—because this is the kind of risk Big Pharma rarely warns you about. (Article continues below.) |

Researchers followed more than 18,000 adults with gout who were prescribed either NSAIDs or colchicine when starting long-term treatment for their condition. Compared to those using colchicine, NSAID users had: 56% higher risk of major cardiovascular events 2.5x greater risk of cardiovascular death 2x higher risk of all-cause mortality Even more alarming? Compared to doing nothing, NSAIDs were still linked to a 50% higher heart risk and nearly double the rate of heart attacks. And this isn’t about years of use. These were short-term prescriptions. Just a few weeks of use was enough to raise red flags. Yet NSAIDs are still handed out like aspirin—no questions asked. Look, gout is painful. It’s no joke. But mainstream medicine’s knee-jerk answer—“Here, take this pill”—often ignores the bigger picture. NSAIDs, like many pharmaceuticals, don’t solve the root problem. They mask symptoms. And in doing so, they open the door to silent dangers… especially for your heart. That’s why I always urge you to look at natural options first: Tart cherry extract – Clinically shown to reduce uric acid and inflammation Omega-3s – Powerful anti-inflammatory support for joints and circulation Magnesium – Helps reduce uric acid levels and improve sleep Vitamin C – Associated with reduced gout risk when taken long term Hydration – Flushes out uric acid buildup and supports kidney health Low-purine diet – Focus on whole foods, veggies, berries, and anti-inflammatory herbs And don’t forget to ask your doctor about colchicine—a prescription option that, while not natural, at least appears safer than NSAIDs in this case. Big Pharma has convinced the world that popping an NSAID is harmless. But studies like this pull the curtain back—and reveal just how risky that “harmless” habit might be, especially for older adults. When it comes to your health, pain relief should never come with a silent cost.
