Het 48e ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament wordt in 2021 gehouden van 1 tot en met 7 maart. De toernooidatum is drie weken verschoven, om ruimte te geven aan de spelers om na de Australian Open terug te keren naar Europa. Samen met het ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament verschuiven alle toernooien van de ATP Tour in februari en maart naar een nieuwe startdatum. Deze behoefte is ontstaan vanwege het feit dat de verplichte quarantaine periode in Australië de planning voor de ATP toernooien voorafgaand aan de Australian Open en het Grand Slam toernooi zelf onder druk zet. Hierdoor werd in overleg tussen ATP Tour en ITF besloten om de Australian Open te verplaatsen. Toernooidirecteur Richard Krajicek: "De overige toernooien, waaronder het ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament, werken graag mee aan een oplossing. Het is voor ieder toernooi, en zeker voor een Grand Slam, van belang dat alle spelers optimaal voorbereid kunnen beginnen. Daar profiteert de hele tenniswereld van. Met de oplossing die we nu hebben gevonden, is dat bereikt. Door de hele kalender te verschuiven heeft het geen impact op ons spelersveld en kunnen zij ook hier goed voorbereid beginnen.” Lees het hele verhaal hier |
