How do you jump start creativity and imagination? For me, it’s riding Old South Mountain Road -- a quiet, seven-mile stretch of back road that sits at the foot of the mountains of Santa Paula, Calif.. As I turn up 12th Street and head over the bridge, I can almost feel my creative engines revving up. They keep firing as I ride the curves and straightaways, past the ranches and fields of lemon and avocado trees. My mind relaxes and ideas start springing up. Some ideas fade quickly, others show signs of promise. Exercising creativity and imagination is critical to the work we do, says Alaina Love in our HR Leaders story today. “We solve problems from a different mindset when we make space for imagination. It jump-starts a powerful cascade of events, with imagination triggering an inspiration and that inspiration leading to a new creative outcome. You can’t access creativity without making space for imagination,” she writes. Creativity is a real skill set and requires regular practice. How do you nurture this? Let me know! And if you enjoy this brief, tell others so they can benefit also.
